Kasese District
Kasese District: Situated in Western Uganda, Kasese town serves as the district capital. The area is primarily agricultural, with 21 sub-counties, 130 parishes, and around 753 settlements. In all these districts, around six tribes are established in this fertile agricultural region, including the Bakonzo, Basongora, Banyabindi, Bakingwe, Bagabo, and Banyagwaki, among others. The distance from Kampala to Kasese is over 278 kilometers, while the road distance measures 368 km. However, before expressing dissatisfaction with the distance, it is essential to recognize that each kilometer is indeed worthwhile. How, you inquire? Kasese boasts numerous stunning sights; nevertheless, I will focus on the top five: Mountain Rwenzori, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kibale National Park, Rwenzori National Park, and Kilembe Mines.

Kibale National Park. Situated approximately 50 km from Kasese town, this area is regarded as one of the most picturesque in Uganda, featuring a terrain that varies from tropical forests to expansive savannas and woodlands on the rift valley floor. Despite encompassing a moist evergreen forest, it boasts a diverse and stunning array of landscapes. This park hosts terrestrial mammals including red and blue duikers, bushbucks, bush pigs, huge forest hogs, common warthogs, and African buffaloes.
Kasese District, Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale, Mountain Rwenzori. This mountain, situated on the boundary between Uganda and Congo, features its highest peak known as Mount Stanley. It is known as the Mountain of the Moon due to its snow-capped whiteness, and its distinctiveness arises from being the highest block mountain in Africa. Participate in activities such as mountain climbing and hiking to experience the extensive natural characteristics of this location. The regions surrounding this mountain endure cool temperatures, providing a suitable escape from the heat of Kampala, hence Kasese District.
Rwenzori National Park. This national park, situated in Bundibugyo inside Kasese, is around 1000 km² and is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This park features Africa’s third tallest mountain peak, several waterfalls, glaciers, and exquisite flora. Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Queen Elizabeth National Park. The largest national park in Uganda is situated in Bundibugyo as well. Do you doubt this? Visit the location between January and February, as it is situated in southwestern Uganda and offers activities such as bird watching, game drives, and boat tours. Its distinctive feature is the diverse assortment of animals, which is delightful. This unique biodiversity is exclusive to this region, characterized by its naturally captivating undulating hills and the adjacent mountainous vistas surrounding the park.
Kasese District, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kilembe Mines. This is Uganda’s largest copper mine, with resources estimated at 4,000,000 tonnes of surplus copper and an unspecified quantity of cobalt ore. The mine collapsed in 1982 due to the Ugandans assigned to manage it lacking the necessary expertise, which rendered copper mining in the area unprofitable and deterred investors. Nevertheless, it remains a remarkable historical site and a significant tourist attraction. Approach!
