What is the cost of hiking Mount Bisoke
A hiking pass for Mount Bisoke costs $75 USD per person and comes with a park guide hired from the volcanoes national park headquarters in Kinigi. Climbers can also hire a helper from the park’s headquarters for $20 USD, and there are art stores nearby where they can buy a wooden stick. At 7:00 a.m., the hike starts at the park’s main office in Kinigi, which is also where visitors can buy climbing passes.
On top of Mount Bisoke, there is a grave site for the American wildlife researcher and famous primatologist Dian Fossey. She spent her whole life saving mountain gorillas in Rwanda from poachers and was also known as “Nyiramacibiri.” Mount Bisoke has a range of plant communities, from bamboo woods at the base to a Hagenia-hypericum forest and a Senecio-lobelia bush near the top.
